But only the tail end of it. My flatmate's, Annelies, friend went hunting and came back with a Thar - a NZ wild goat. This is how they look like:

Himalayan Tahr (or Thar) were introduced to NZ and their numbers are controlled since they pose a thread to the alpine vegetation. And therefore they can be hunted! More info and pictures here.
And so Annelies was the 'lucky' (she wasn't sure if that is the right term - she is more or less vegetarian) recipient of a piece of it:
We left it in the fridge for 3 days, then she marinaded it for half a day and then we put it in the oven (with potatoes and pumpkin) for about 40 minutes. And Voila!
And this is the whole meal:
... with the meat partially hidden underneath some salad. But Annelies did great and actually ate 2 slices! She did say that this was an exception :) The meat tasted great, it was very tender and had the perfect seasoning. Yum!
PS: It tasted like halfway between beef and ostrich if you really want to know.

hmm, I wanna learn this. Do they keep the skin? Is it good for anything?
She said they left the hide behind. I have only dealt with moose skin and it was a lot of work turning it into leather. It also takes some skill if you don't want any holes in there. But it's very doable - and a lot of fun if you have running water :) Let's go hunting!
poor little bambi thar.
